This course will provide basic information about bird identification and will enable the student to: 1) know the field guides and other written materials that will assist with bird identification in north central Texas, 2) use the internet to recognize key characteristics to help identify individual bird species (e.g., bird shapes, behavior, color patterns, and songs), and 3) be able to recognize several common birds of north central Texas by sight and sound. The course will involve 2, two hour lectures (April 6 & 8) and a Saturday field trip (April 10) at Cleburne State Park, beginning at dawn. Bring a copy of your favorite field guide to each class.
